WP4 Components developments

The objective of this WP is to develop and provide a complementary set of FD-SOI components of various technology node flavours (28nm, 22nm, and 12nm FDSOI) for next generation autonomous driving applications. The components aim to leverage the advanced features of FDSOI technology in general, optimize the use of technology node based on computational and power requirements, and more specifically develop an advanced demonstrator based on 12nm FDSOI technology node as a power and cost effective alternative to FinFET technologies for high computing low power demanding autonomous driving products. All smart mobility (automotive, unmanned aerial vehicles) application domains addressed in the scope of the Ocean12 projects require energy efficient components. Three specific main areas have been identified covering a wide spectrum of the domain
This WP will integrate and validate IPs developed in WP3 and will benefit from the path finding solution to push FDSOI technology performances identified in WP2. It will rely on the MPW shuttles provided by GlobalFoundries to get access to silicon samples which will be validated for functionality, performance and automotive reliability. Then these components will be used in WP5 for system integration in the defined demo platforms defined by OEMs (Audi & Airbus).
Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) is facing many challenges. OCEAN12 project will address four of the main ones:
1. The increasing need of powerful processing, needed by more and more complex algorithms checking vehicle environment before taking any “secured” decisions.
2. The limitation of the power consumption not only due to limited energy in batteries but also to the severe automotive environment conditions (containment, temperature, humidity, vibration, etc...) that can drastically increases the device junction temperature hence the leakage power with a risk of thermal runaway.
3. The signal integrity of a large amount of data travelling at high speed in a noisy environment
4. The size of the Sensors which have to be integrated in the car body

Therefore, this work package is split into three main collaborative tasks to bring an answer to the above challenges. Task 4.1 is focusing on ultra-low power consumption wake-up system. Based on SOI technology those detectors will be extremely useful when car is parked for long period. This task will create complementary components covering four main detection types: optical, radio, acoustical and mechanical shocks.
Task 4.2 is improving two existing ADAS devices around sensors. Finally task 4.3 is covering a large spectrum of power processing. These three collaborative tasks will defined a wide range of component needed in any ADAS system. It makes the link between all SOI technology bricks prepared in previous work packages 2 and 3 (mainly SOI technology, IP, development flow, EDA, etc) and the final demonstrators defined in work package 5.
